A night for the books! Honored to have joined Lenz Moser @lenz_m_moser and renowned Master Sommelier Stefan Neumann @stefanthesommelier_ms at the Mandarin Oriental London for an extraordinary Chateau Changyu Moser XV benchmark tasting. A collection that spanned from the iconic Hermitage by Guigal to the delightful Montelena Chardonnay, but the stars of the evening had to be the timeless trifecta: #ChateauLafite, #OpusOne, and #Sassicaia. These benchmarks in winemaking set the gold standard, leaving us all with palates educated and spirits elevated. Cheers to unforgettable nights and incomparable wines!
#Repost@ruchneo ・・・ First experience with @changyumoserxv Purple Air. But I was able to clock it in the blind line up because of that very specific mace +coriander with black fruit quality that the China Moser cabs display - unlike any cab I’ve ever tasted. Lenz says it’s the small cab berries + winemaking + Swiss acacia barrel ageing that all contribute to the uniquesness of this wine! the ‘16 that followed it was superb. Magnificent vintage to boot. The spices mellowed out whilst remaining distinct and brought out a lot of venison like sweet game flavours with.
This was part of a mega lineup of 10 seen and 8 blind Super -Cabs from across the globe organised by the inimitable @stefanthesommelier_ms and the man himself - @lenz_m_moser Total privilege to have been in attendance.
My numero uno was the Blanc De Noir barrique aged MoserXV Cabernet that was paired with a delicious Montelena 2020 chard that was drinking superbly. I swear I would not have guessed it was a BdN Cabernet had it been in a black glass. All the heft of a serious creamy, juicy chard with malo.
The Lafite 2019 and the Opus 2019 were also shining and rather oddly approachable with just 3 years under their belts. The 2018 Sassicaia was a bit underwhelming and I own a double mag of it so it had better improve! (I say this as a bonafide Sass lover)
Qi Xi, often dubbed the "Chinese Valentine's Day," is rooted in an ancient celestial love story. According to legend, Zhinü, the weaver girl (symbolized by the Vega star), and Niulang, the cowherd (represented by the Altair star), were deeply in love. However, their love was not approved by the heavens, leading them to be separated by the Milky Way.
Once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, a flock of magpies forms a bridge, allowing the lovers to meet. This fleeting reunion is a poignant reminder of the power and persistence of love despite the odds.
The festival is marked by various customs, with young women often showcasing their domestic skills, and lovers exchanging gifts and gazing at the night sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of the star-crossed couple.
Changyu has been crowned the "World's Strongest Wine & Champagne Brand of 2023" by the renowned Brand Finance. With an impressive score of 83.2, Changyu stands tall at the pinnacle of global wine brands. Cheers to excellence and legacy!

We recently had a pleasure to taste Chateau Changyu Moser XV wines with the excellent team of Tàn Chá restaurant. Lenz Maria Moser @lenz_m_moser shared his experience in Chinese winemaking, demonstrating the passion and expertise required to create some of the finest Chinese wines

On April 11th, the 2023 Changyu Noble Dragon Thousand People Business Conference, titled "Choose Changyu Noble Dragon for Chinese Banquet", was held in Chengdu. Thousands of online and offline distribution partners deeply experienced a classic Chinese joyful banquet.
"The banquet promotion is accompanied by Changyu Noble Dragon's annual production and sales exceeding 100 million bottles!" Concentrating on the banquet scene, Changyu Noble Dragon shoulders the mission of expanding the Chinese wine market. Sun Jian, General Manager of Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Company Limited, emphasized that the promotion of banquets should be active and fast. Changyu Noble Dragon will firmly focus on the main banquet scene in the future, fully leverage its competitive advantages of large brands, high quality, and high cost-effectiveness, and help China's wine consumption continue to expand.
Only by constantly reflecting on oneself can one make progress. In 2022, domestic wine experienced "ten consecutive declines", while the imported wine market experienced "five consecutive declines", making it known as the "most difficult year" for the wine industry in the past 20 years.
In the first half of 2022, the sales revenue of wine enterprises above designated size nationwide was 3.853 billion yuan, while the revenue of Changyu during the same period was 1.953 billion yuan, accounting for 50.69%.
As a leading enterprise that accounts for more than half of China's wine industry, in Sun Jian's view, it is not very promising compared to the continuous decline of most of its wine peers and the entire industry. Changyu should place itself within the entire Chinese wine industry and check its own gaps.
According to the data of China Wine Association, 36.77 million bottles of white spirit are opened every day in China, while only 1.61 million bottles of domestic wine and imported bottled wine are opened every day. Hereto, Sun Jian believed that it is necessary to study why wine has not been able to better meet the needs of China's high-end wine consumer group, and how to expand the consumer base of wine. This should be the issue that Changyu, as an industry leader, should consider and the direction of future efforts.
Confidence: High Quality Domestic Wine will Usher in A Good Period of Development
In Sun Jian's view, although the development of the wine industry is currently facing some difficulties, positive and favorable factors should also be seen. For example, the Chinese market has a large scale and is currently undergoing consumption upgrading. The key is who can be closer to consumers and who can better satisfy them.
There is no decline out for wine, and to some extent, the industry may show signs of upward adjustment starting from this year's Chengdu Sugar and Wine Fair." Sun Jian pointed out that in the current situation where domestic wine has been declining for ten consecutive years and imported wine has been declining for five consecutive years, the industry is expected to usher in a new cycle of growth.
Opportunities are ahead. Changyu has strength and more confidence.
"Ten years ago, it was great for Changyu to win one or two international gold awards annually. However, excluding overseas acquisitions, Changyu's domestic brands alone won 25 Grand Prizes and 75 Golden Prizes internationally last year, adding up to exactly 100," Sun Jian shared. In the past month only, Changyu has won a total of 125 medals in various international competitions, including 15 Grand Prizes and 69 Golden Prizes. Sun Jian stated that it also indirectly confirmed Changyu's progress over the years.
"Craftsmanship comes first." Zhou Hongjiang, Chairman of Changyu Company, emphasized in an interview with Xinhua that Changyu should adhere to long-term principles. "Our products must be able to meet the needs of consumers whether in terms of external packaging or internal quality. Domestic wine with high quality will usher in a good period of development.
In 2023, Changyu will adhere to profit assessment as the starting point, implement the focus strategy, and promote the product structure to further focus on mid to high end, especially high-end, and focus on core single products that can bring greater sales and profit contribution; Strengthen classified marketing tactics, focus on key cities and core target consumer groups in the "battle of annihilation", and do a good job in leading typical cases; Continue to promote Digital transformation, further empower business, and continue to vigorously develop online business.
In the spring full of bright hope, Changyu looks forward to working together with the entire industry to make more people fall in love with Chinese wine and brandy, and work together to expand the industry and create good years.
From the lakeside of Xizi Lake to Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing, from City of Springs Jinan to Wonderland Yantai, AFIP Grand Ceremony entered Chengdu on April 10, marking the sixth city of a journey of craftsmanship.
Led by Li Jiming, Chinese brewing master and chief winemaker of Changyu, Qian Gaochao, Chinese master of arts and crafts, national inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, the creative team of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit's Blooming Age, and outstanding enterprise representatives jointly advocated the Tianfu Declaration to pay tribute to the great national craftsmanship and promote Chinese brands to go global.
Changyu was founded in Yantai in 1892. For over 130 years, Changyu has always focused on the main business of brewing, dedicated itself to researching brewing techniques, well telling Chinese stories, showcasing Chinese confidence, and leading Chinese wine to face the world with craftsmanship and quality.
"What we need to do is to meet the target consumer group in China who are willing to enjoy a bottle of wine for hundreds or even thousands of yuan in the high-end segment." If we do well in this market, China as a whole may achieve breakthroughs and growth. On April 10, at the strategic cooperation conference between Changyu and Mount Taishan Famous Drinks, Sun Jian, General Manager of Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Company Limited, said that Changyu would continue to firmly adhere to the strategy of "focusing on medium and high end, centering on high quality".
At this event, Changyu and Taishan Mingyin jointly announced that in the next year, both sides will reach sales volume of 1 million bottles of Changyu wine in 100 eastern coastal cities.
Changyu has already made "circle marketing" a key part of promotion and assessment, enabling circle marketing to effectively empower indicator growth and brand enhancement. This collaboration with Taishan Mingyin is a vital measure to precisely serve the high-end circle of people.
On April 9th, Travis Fuller, General Manager of Kilikanoon Estate, flew to Chengdu to attend the tasting and launch conference of the new wine "Kilikanoon Seven Star Crown Blended Dry Red Wine," which was also his first time visiting China. The face changing art of Sichuan Opera surprised and fascinated him, and he gave a thumbs up for the vastness and profoundness of traditional Chinese culture.
As one of the wine companies with the deepest and widest distribution in the world, Changyu has 14 Chateaux and 250,000-acre grape bases worldwide. Thanks to its global layout, Changyu is able to maximize the integration of global advantageous resources, such as high-quality raw materials, first-class talents, exquisite brewing technology, and diverse market channels. In terms of market channels, Changyu integrates the global Chateaux marketing network and has products sold to more than 80 countries worldwide, becoming the fourth-largest wine company in the world with the second largest brand value in the world.
Changyu also established a multinational rotation system for winemakers, utilizing the climate differences between the northern and southern hemispheres. The 14 major wineries worldwide rotate their winemakers across borders during the local off-season, providing in-depth exchange and learning, greatly improving their brewing skills.
In the competition with top international brands on the same stage, the quality of Chinese wine is also constantly improving. Sun Jian, General Manager of Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Company Limited, said that Chinese wine must occupy a place internationally in the future. It is hoped that more Chinese companies can work together to enhance the reputation of Chinese wine.
On April 9, Changyu collaborated with Tmall to launch the China Wine Youth Popularization Laboratory and announced that they will jointly launch three youth-oriented products in the second half of this year. Jie Shou, Head of Tmall's beverage industry, and Sun Jian, General Manager of Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Company Limited, jointly launched the China Wine Youth Popularization Laboratory.
Sun Jian, General Manager of Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Company Limited, stated that there are differences in alcohol consumption between the younger generation of consumers and their parents. Changyu will make full use of Tmall big data, new product incubation tools, and marketing promotion tools to continuously research and create a wine that meets the needs of young people, makes them like, and feels "wow".
Changyu continues to innovate in categories such as low alcohol wine, fruit juice wine, and sparkling wine, continuously increasing its business models including live streaming and new e-commerce platforms to serve young user groups.
In 2022, Changyu won the first place in brand in five platforms, namely Tmall, JD, Tiktok, Kuaishou, and Pinduoduo on the Double 11.

Repost @bibendumwine ・・・ What are you drinking to celebrate the Lunar New Year? Our wine of choice will be Purple Air Comes from the East, by @changyumoserxv
Happy Lunar New Year of the Rabbit wishing you all the prosperity and happiness! To celebrate, I thought I’d open this extraordinary bottle from Ningxia in China. Changyu was founded in China in 1892 by Zhang Bishi. All those years ago, Bishi saw the potential and imported more than 500,000 vines from the US and Europe, & so began Chinese wine production. This wine comes from a relatively new venture, it’s called Chateau Changyu Moser XV and a joint venture with Austria’s Lenz Moser. This is from Lenz’s first vintage (I think,) 2016, and called ‘Purple Air Comes from the East’ when translated. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has seen some oak. So what do I think! It’s quite dark in my house but there’s a very slight tawny rim to the purple hue of this wine. Very fresh on the nose, some cassis, hawthorn, crushed nettles and almost a doughy caramel. (My house is quite cold and it’s taking some time to warm up so check back later for more.) On the palate it’s very different, very ‘proper’. Smooth, extremely well balanced, fresh red fruits, raspberry mostly, the spiced hawthorn note is still there and a freshly baked brownie on quite a short finish, not necessarily a bad thing. A very serious wine! I feel very lucky this year already to have tried it. I will let you research for pricing…
